Collars for a Cause: DUKE

UPDATED NOVEMBER 13TH 2016 (HE'S BEEN ADOPTED!)

About Sir Duke:

DJ and I rescued Duke from the side of the highway in Guatemala outside of the village of Patanatic. When we saw him, he was skin and bones with his hair falling out from a skin infection. We brought him right to the local animal rescue organization (AYUDA) and they estimate he was about 3 months old but only weighed in at about 5 lbs. He got treated immediately for worms, parasites and rabies. His skin infection was simply "puppy dermatitis" caused by excessive malnutrition. We have since given him a dozen baths using only natural remedies such as apple cider vinegar to aid in his skin and hair repair.

Upon writing this, it has been just 1 week since he has been living with us and he is so bright. I am not just saying this so you adopt him. Really, he is a brilliant dog. Believe me, I would know. We've got 3 crazy pups ourselves. Duke lets himself out to do his "business" (no I didn't even teach him) and he can understand exactly what I say to him. Not only does he understand, but he listens. He has been sleeping through the entire night, not chewing, biting or destroying anything. He is fearless. Duke barks, jumps, and initiates play with to our ginormous chocolate lab and fierce doberman. They get along so well and even sleep together in the same bed.

After doing some research, it looks like Duke could be part border collie. His hair is growing in long and his coloring and face completion resembles that race. No wonder! Border collies are said to be one of the smartest breeds of dogs in the world.

But, since we have these 3 other dogs, we are just nursing him back to health. He deserves a better home with more attention and love. Hiptipico and AYUDA will help with the entire process of getting him to his forever home. Approximate cost is $1000 to the USA which will include his paperwork, vaccines, neutering procedure, crate, transport, flight and of course his Hiptipico collar.
