Luxury by Nature: Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel

Located in the Heart of the Mayan World, on the outskirts of the world-renowned Tikal Archeological Park, Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel invites you to experience the jungle at its finest. Tikal is the ruin of an ancient pre-Columbian city, located in a remote area of the rainforest of Guatemala. A legendary Maya site, Tikal is to Guatemala what the Great Pyramids are to Egypt - a national symbol and a source of pride in the past.

When I finally decided to visit this most quintessential Guatemala destination, I knew I needed a hotel to compliment my journey. I had waited over 5 years to take the trip from Panajachel to Flores and had built up this moment in my head. This was something I read about in my history books and wanted to share with the world. Most people know about the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico as the destination for a peek into the ancient Maya civilization. Tikal is definitely one of the least-known great sites of antiquity in the West and I want more people to appreciate that!

You know you are in for an unforgettable experience when you land at an international airport named "Mundo Maya" (Maya World). This sets the stage for the entire trip being enthralled in Maya culture and history. Upon arriving at Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel I could feel that they were just as dedicated to preserving the history, culture and environment of the Tikal area.

While their facilities cater to the more luxe traveler - on-site spa, private yoga, infinity pool - Las Lagunas also have a spectacular affinity for ecological and archeological preservation. The boutique hotel has their own curated museum, private nature reserve and rehabilitation islands for monkeys. Partnering with ARCAS Wildlife Rescue Center in Petén, the hotel makes it a priority to act sustainably in this extremely biodiverse area. Situated right on Quexil Lagoon, the Las Lagunas is the epitome of "Luxury by Nature" - surrounded by 200 acres of uninhabited rainforest.

Take a look at some of my favorite moments from my stay at Las Lagunas!

If you are planning to visit Tikal, I recommend getting in contact with Sergio. Our tour was arranged through the hotel and he was incredibly gracious, patient and respectful. Not to mention, he had incredible knowledge about the sites, history and culture of the area! See more images from my time exploring the ruins ⇢here⇠
