Mundo Maya: Tikal National Park

You know you are in for an unforgettable experience when you land at an international airport named "Mundo Maya" (Maya World). This sets the stage for an entire trip enthralled in Maya culture and history.

Tikal is the ruin of an ancient pre-Columbian city, located in a remote area of the rainforest of Guatemala. A legendary Maya site, Tikal is to Guatemala what the Great Pyramids are to Egypt - a national symbol and a source of pride in the past.

Most people know about the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico as the destination for a peek into the ancient Maya civilization. Tikal is definitely one of the least-known great sites of antiquity in the West and I want more people to appreciate that!

Take a peek at my time exploring the archeological site:

If you are planning to visit Tikal, I recommend getting in contact with Sergio. Our tour was arranged through the hotel and he was incredibly gracious, patient and respectful. Not to mention, he had incredible knowledge about the sites, history and culture of the area! See more images from my Tikal stay at Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel ⇢here⇠
