PomPom Cotton Wrap Scarf

$119.00

Our cutest scarf ever! This 100% cotton beauty will be an instant favorite-complete with darling pompom trim details. Traditionally woven on a back-strap loom by female artisans. Mayan women and their bodies are physically and intimately engaged in every moment of a weaving’s creation. That is what makes each and every table runner so incredibly special.

This striking piece makes a nice spring scarf or shawl but it's also equally deserving of being put on display in your home as a bed runner or wall hanging. Cozy and versatile.

Every Hiptipico scarf is handmade by Mayan artisans which produces one-of-a-kind variations. This makes them uniquely charming and distinct from factory-made accessories.

Origin: El Triunfo, Pujijil
Ethnicity Maya Kaqchikel

Ten women in El Triunfo, an isolated community in the western highlands of Sololá, gathered together to form a weaving cooperative. Juana, the founder of this women’s group, is the only female in her community that speaks Spanish and got up enough courage to leave the village to look for more business opportunities. Through the sale of hand-woven and hand-crafted goods, they have united to support their families and preserve their culture. The women use the art of back strap weaving to express their cultural identity, create their unique clothing, and generate income for their families.
