Teresa and Family
Origin: Santa Catarina Palopó
Ethnicity: Maya Kaqchikel
Teresa lives with her husband, 8 children, mother and father in Santa Catarina Palopó and they only speak their native tongue Kaqchiquel at home. Teresa works locally with a group of women weavers designing and creating unique greeting cards, scarves and weavings. Her village is far removed from the tourist center, so she travels everyday to sell in the streets of Panajachel. Now as her children are growing up, Teresa also sends Salvador and Francisca, two of her oldest children to the streets to sell her greeting cards just so the oldest daughter can attend university.
