Newly Woven Cleo Dog Collar XS/S- Dark Rose

Product Description

Our new line of Newly Woven Cleo Dog Collars are named after one of favorite rescue dogs here in Guatemala, Mama Cleo. She came to us from the street with a litter of 8 puppies and your purchase helps us rescue more puppies in need. The unique embroidery was woven new by our female artisan partners in a weaving cooperative in the mountains outside of Chichicastenango. Using a traditional technique with intricate needlework, each strap can take 3 – 10 days to complete. By purchasing directly from female artisans, you are supporting a sustainable effort to pay above a living wage, provide steady employment and impact entire indigenous families.

The leather part of the strap was carefully crafted by our artisan partner Don Vicente and Ofelia in a small home workshop using top-grain leatherYour purchase supports our sustainable project to provide dignified job opportunities to indigenous artisans in Guatemala.

Unique embroidery pattern.

Metal hardware and durable leather construction.

Dog collar comes with a multi-color dust-bag and information card about the artisan your purchase supports.

No two collars are the same! Hiptipico prides itself on uniqueness and authenticity. Every Hiptipico product is 100% handmade and has the human touch of the weaver and maker in each stitch. This makes our products uniquely charming and distinct from factory-made accessories. No two are exactly same and imperfections are to be expected and appreciated.

Community Impact

Your purchase supports our street dog rescue efforts in rural Guatemala, to cover the medical costs of caring for these puppies before going to their forever home. Each pup is sterilized and vaccinated here in Panajachel.

The women in the Quiejel cooperative joined together to establish a formal weaving cooperative to better support their families and community and to preserve their indigenous culture.Yolanda, the Quiejel group leader is one of the most entrepreneurial artisan partners we have! She leads this group of women in a remote village on the outskirts of Chichicastenango to develop new and innovative designs ready for export. Yolanda is a master weaver and has created many textiles for both our camera straps and bags. She specializes in an intricate hand-woven technique that is being lost amongst some of the indigenous communities. Yolanda is the creator of many of the designs in our woven collection and she created them with you in mind.

Don Vicente and his family have a quaint home workshop and local storefront in Panajachel. He comes from a family of rural sheep farmers and at a young age, he moved to Pana to start his own business producing a more extensive line of artisan goods using high quality materials and genuine leather. Over the years, he and his wife Ofelia have designed and perfectly curated a collection with unbeatable craftsmanship. They are a passionate family dedicated to incorporating the authentic indigenous culture into their work and passing these artisanal techniques down to their children. Now his son is the manager of their storefront and their daughters help with client relations which includes collaborating with us! We love being able to work alongside the next generation and create beautiful designs in teamwork with Don Vicente and his family!
