Here at Lotus and Luna, we are committed to empowering women and the ethical manufacturing of sustainable accessories that are also fashionable and affordable! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every morning we could wake up and dress ourselves in comfortable, high quality clothing and accessories, knowing that each individual piece serves a purpose somewhere in the world? We think so too! But we can’t do it alone. This summer, check out these ethically conscious brands that will make you feel as good as you look!

2. NAJA

Co-Founded by “Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez, Naja brings you high quality, environmentally friendly, sexy and a tad rebellious undergarments for an affordable price! With dozens of adorable patterns and fabrics, you might debate even wearing a shirt! Each purchase comes with its own wash bag so that your delicates can be easily washed and dried in your machine at home.

Their patterns are digitally printed, the most environmentally friendly method available for printing fabric. Naja also strives to empower women (woo!) and disrupt the objectifying way lingerie is marketed towards women. Naja’s factory employs primarily single mothers or female heads of households, who are paid above market wages with healthcare benefits. They even donate books, school supplies, uniforms and all school meals to the children of their employees.  Talk about the ultimate girl tribe!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Coconut is an amazing superfood with a list of health, beauty, and diet benefits that is literally endless! Organic Fiji has perfected the production and quality of organic Coconut oil based products while remaining a Fair Trade and environmentally friendly company. Their array of organic coconut oil products will get you through your toughest sunburn, dry brittle hair days, Festival Camping challenges, and even some healthy food recipes. These summer essentials will change the way you think about and treat your skin, and you’ll never look back!

In search of the perfect Festival Season boho Backpack or bum bag? Well look no more, Hiptipico is here and we’re on board! Based in Guatemala and inspired by the indigenous Maya of the region, Hiptipico creates sustainable pathways for entrepreneurs and empowers indigenous families and communities. All of their artisans are indigenous people with the skills and creativity comparable to any first world fashion-educated designers. Hiptipico’s scholarship program, Backpacks that give back, allows all the children of their employees to attend international preparatory school. By the time these children reach high school ages, they are trilingual and educated in basic online commerce. These skills allow the younger members of the communities to set up and manage Etsy and Ebay shops to sell handcrafted items made by their parents!

5. SUMMER LOVE SWIMWEAR

Going green has never been sexier than wearing a Summer Love eco friendly Bikini! These classic, flirty bikinis look and feel like the luxe swimwear in the window of that bougey boutique you’ve admired every summer for years, but wouldn’t dare to look at the price tag. But we wonder where that bikini was produced, and at what expense to environment. Summer Love’s Eco Bikini is made of 100% VITA, the sustainable techno-fabric which is made from pre and post-consumer materials such as discarded fishing nets! So they are actually helping clean up our oceans and make them safer for all the marine life we love so much!

Enjoy your beautiful planet this summer. Appreciate and give back to your fellow humans who may be less fortunate, and look good doing it!
