Strolling through La Antigua

The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone [or with her bestie] is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before.⠀

So incredibly grateful this beauty took an adventure and joined me for a week in Guatemala. We celebrated 10 years of friendship over a bottle of prosecco overlooking Lake Atitlán. When I met her in biology class, she was shy yet wide eyed. We had our separate paths but always found one another. She was a sorority girl popping around from party to party. I was a workaholic blowing steam to always get my way.⠀

She tells me she was first attracted to me when I stormed in late to her first biology lab. I came in demanding a spot and for the professor to let me switch in. He kindly replied I could not enter because there was no more space. I continued to explain that I had soccer practice at the same time as the other lab and had to switch. I ran to the only empty seat, stubbornly sat down and said 'see there is space' and he just conceded. At that moment, Heather knew we were going to be friends. ⠀

They say opposites attract and that is exactly true. I push her out of her comfort zone. Like the time I insisted she travel to Spain and study abroad with me for the summer. ⠀

And she keeps me grounded. By not letting me eat the horse meat and making sure I take time to appropriately blow off steam in the hottest 5 level nightclub in Madrid. ⠀

Today is her wedding anniversary and I am so genuinely proud of the woman she has become. I watched her mature, grow and become independent and self sufficient. She also is a large part of the reason I am who I am today. The confidence I have in her and the trusting relationship we hold is priceless. Most importantly, we don't judge one another and give honest advice. We let one another experience situations in their own way and are always there to offer support. ⠀

Here are some captures on her last day of Guatemalan adventures!
